Q: Denison Corporation is authorized to issue 10000 no par value $10 convertible preferred shares and 125000 no par value common shares. On January 1, 2003, the ledger contained the following shareholders equity balances:

Preferred Shares (5000 Shares) $575000
Common Shares (70000 Shares) $ 1050000
Retained Earnings $ 300000

A) Can someone help me journalize these entries, B) Enter the beginning balances in the accounts and post the journal entires to the shareholders equity accounts, C) Calculate the company’s return on equity for 2003?

1. Issued 1000 preferred shares for a building having a fair market value of $125000. The market value of the shares on this date was $120 per share.

2. Holders of 2000 preferred shares purchased at $110 per share converted the shares into common shares. Each preferred share was convertible into eight common shares. Market values were preferred shares, $122 and common shares $17.

3. Issued 400 preferred shares for land. The asking price for the land was 60000. The market value of the preferred shares was $130 per share.

4. Holders of 1000 preferred shares pruchased at $130 per share converted the shares into common shares. Each preferred share was convertible into eight common shares. Market values were preferred shares $134 and common shares $16.

5. Total revenues and expenses for the year were $600000 and $340000, respectively. No dividens were declared.

I’m taking an accounting class and I found a definition of management consulting: an area of public accounting ranging from development of accounting and computer systems to support services for marketing projects and merger and acquisition activities.

My question is what’s the overlap between public accounting and management consulting?
